How to get to Kyrgyzstan
By air
Recommended airlines:
Turkish Airlines, British Airways, Chinese Airlines, Aeroflot, Tadjik Airlines, Uzbek Airlines, “Kyrgyzstan” Air Company.
Manas International Airport is located 30 km from Bishkek (formerly Frunze: the airport’s code is “FRU”).
Other nearest   airport: Almaty, Kazakhstan (formerly Alma-Ata), 250 km from Bishkek.

VISA
Kyrgyzstan has made significant progress in simplifying tourist access. For most citizens of the European Community, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Japan it is necessary to obtain a visa. Visas can be obtained from Kyrgyz embassies before travelling or from the airport upon arrival. Please check with your airline before travelling, as some airlines may not allow you to fly without a valid visa.
Currency Exchange
Foreign currencies can only be exchanged for Kyrgyz som in Kyrgyzstan. Money can be exchanged at commercial banks and authorized bureaux de change, Bishkek is the easiest place to do this and often offers the best exchange rates. The US Dollar and Euro are the easiest currency to exchange. Please bring new, undamaged notes and in large denominations ($50 or Euro 50 or larger) as this gives the best exchange rates. Some places refuse to change notes of smaller denominations.
Credit/Debit Cards and ATMs
Credit cards are accepted in some of the larger hotels in Bishkek and can also be used at banks to withdraw cash from the counter or ATM machines.
Traveller’s Cheques
There is limited acceptance, but some banks in Bishkek accept traveller’s cheques in US Dollars; commission charges are high. Cash is recommended.
