Magnificent Views of Khan-Tengry

The highest and mightiest part of the Tien-Shan system, the central Tien-Shan, borders with China and the southeastern part with Kazakhstan. The most beautiful and demanding peaks, Khan-Tengry “ King of Heaven”(6995) and Pobeda “Victory” Peaks (7439) are located where Kazakhstan, China and Kyrgyzstan meet. The Central Tien-Shan mountains form an ice knot, an empire of snow and ice. During this tour, in a matter of hours you can travel from summer to winter through all climatic zones: from semi-desert and steppe foothills through mountain forests and meadows up to the everlasting snows and glaciers.

Level: This is a demanding trek with spectacular views of Khan-Tengri; Peak Pobeda and the Engilchek glacier. You will cross many high passes and fast flowing rivers. You will also see many beautiful mountain lakes and summer pastures.

Itinerary

Day 1 From Barskoon to Jyrgalang Village by car. Distance:150 km. Time: 3-4 hours. Our horseman will meet you with your horses. After lunch, during the ride you will pass Kyzylmoinok Pass and come down to the Tup Valley and along the Tup River. There you will cross it 7-8 times and have a night in Archator Valley. Distance: about 10 km. Time: 2-3 hours.

Day 2 On horse from Archator to Kyzyltor and Ashytor Pass (3649 m). Here you will meet the local inhabitants, very kind and hospitable shepherds. You will taste mare's milk “kymyz,” and see the real life of the Kyrgyz people.

Day 3 From the top of the pass you will be astonished by the breathtaking mountains of Khan-Tengry and Pobeda Peaks. Then you will pass Uchkungoi Valley.

Day 4 From Uchkungoi to Echkilitash canyon along the Saryjaz River. Here you find beautiful mountain lakes and pastures.

Day 5 Along the river you will go up to Tuz pass (4001m). O/n before the pass. Distance: 25-30 km. Time: 5-6 hours.

Day 6 Riding through Tuz Pass and overnight near Engilchek River.

Day 7 Engilchek River – At-Jailoo (meadows) and mountain lake where you can see the Engilchek glacier. All around you will see mountain flowers (edelweiss) which are the pride of our country, and the national flower of Switzerland.

Day 8 Horse riding along the river Dunguromo and Kaiyndy and again there are shepherds and yak's shepherds here. Distance: 25-30 km. Time: 5-6 hours.

Day 9 Kunan Pass-Maidadyr-Engilchek Village. In the afternoon you will drive back to Barskoon. Soak in a hot water bath, enjoy supper and night in a private home.

During your horse riding trek we provide:
English speaking tour guide, cook, horseman, 3 meals a day, tents, cooking equipment, horses with all equipment, first aid.

Need to bring
Down jacket and warm sweater, warm sleeping bag, rain gears, silk blanked inside sleeping bag, 2-3 pairs of warm socks, trekking waterproof boots, gloves, sunglasses, suncream, flashlight, personal medicine, metal water bottle (0,75 litters),Term-A-Rest mats, riding chaps, micro pure (or any other water disinfections).
